Confidentiality

Be assured that any information communicated during the course of your counselling session will not be communicated to any third party without your express written consent. There are, however, certain exceptions.

  • As part of our professional supervision, it may be necessary at times to discuss aspects of sessions with other centre professionals. This does not extend beyond the limits of professional codes of ethics.
  • Legal obligations can require counsellors to report specific incidents to the police or community welfare services.
These may be but are not restricted to:
    - Suspicions of child abuse or neglect.
    - If an individual life or that of another individual is at risk of serious injury or harm.
  • Courts of law may subpoena our records for use within the context of their investigations in so far as our records have relevance to the particular case at hand.

Service Limitations

Due to the nature of on-line therapy, there are specific limitations to our service provision. Should you be experiencing feelings of suicide, we recommend you log off the computer now and contact the police or the ambulance service.

Should you be confronted with issues involving sexual abuse or domestic violence as a current issue, it is recommended you engage in face-to-face counselling. These issues are best handled with a physical support network. Where this is impractical or inaccessible we will nevertheless provide professional support through our services.

Where therapy involved dealing with eating disorders, sexual deviance or psychotic disorders, we also recommend that you contact your local practitioners for specialist professional help.

Age Restrictions

Current law requires that clients under the age of 18 provide written parental consent in order to proceed with our services. We are able to speak to your parents to obtain this.

Technology

As with all enterprises using information technology, there are times when lines will be down or congested, equipment will malfunction and systems may simply die. Please be patient with us during these times and we will rectify any concerns you may have where humanly possible.
